San Bernardino County father arrested on child abuse charges

A Yucca Valley man was arrested for alleged child abuse after his 3-month-old daughter suffered serious injuries. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the infant was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with “life-threatening injuries consistent with child abuse.”Detectives identified the infant's father, 31-year-old Drew Hellerud, as the suspect and he was arrested on several charges including child endangerment, aggravated mayhem and torture.He was booked into the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino and is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bail.San Lorenzo: Teen sentenced to 7 years for killing newlywed in road rage shooting, is also a suspect in Oakland house party double homicide

OAKLAND — A suspected Oakland gang member was sentenced to seven years in juvenile detention for killing a man in a drive-by shooting last year, though police say they asked county prosecutors to charge the 17-year-old as an adult.Sergio Morales-Jacquez, of Oakland, was sentenced in the Sept. 18, 2022 shooting death of 30-year-old Rienheart “Tiago” Asuncion, according to a Friday news release by the Alameda County Sheriff’s office. The news release says police petitioned the Alameda County District Attorney to charge Morales-Jacquez as an adult, where criminal penalties are much stiffer, but were denied the request.Morales-Jacquez has been named by Oakland police as a suspect in the shooting deaths of brothers Jazy Sotelo Garcia, 17, and Angel Sotelo Garcia, 15, killed at an Oct. 1, 2022 house party in Oakland. A private ambulance was stolen on Friday afternoon, leading to a series of crashes in Broward County and to a woman’s arrest. The chaotic series of events began at the intersection of University Drive and McNab Road in Tamarac, at around 1:13 p.m. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a call reporting the theft of the ambulance. Deputies from BSO’s Tamarac District responded to the scene and began trying to locate the stolen vehicle.An official with the ambulance company, National Health Transport, said that the vehicle was parked at the HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital.A National Health Transport employee was inside the ambulance when it was taken, the company official said. City of Miami Police seek the public’s help with information on a criminal who, they said, stabbed a man to death along the Rickenbacker Causeway.Investigators said tips that lead to an arrest could receive a reward of up to $5,000.According to officials, on May 26, authorities responded to 200 Rickenbacker Causeway after someone was stabbed. When police arrived at the scene, they found a man unresponsive with stab wounds.Miami Fire Rescue crews arrived and administered lifesaving efforts, but the man succumbed to his injuries.Detectives later identified the deceased man as 48-year-old Tyson Cash.The murderer is still on the loose, and police need the community’s help in stopping the criminal.Officials urge anyone with information to contact the Miami Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 305-603-6350. It was adoption day for several Shih Tzus puppies after their previous owner was unable to take care of them.One of the puppies, 3-year-old Dexter, looked happy as ever on Friday as he was being petted and pampered by his new owner. Seventy-eight-year-old Diana Tarrant also looked happy after she adopted Dexter.The Shih Tzu’s new owner said she recently lost her cat and dog, and she lost her husband six years ago.“I’m here by myself, I’ve just been lonely,” Tarrant said. “I wanted a puppy.”Dexter and nine other Shih Tzus were rescued from living in unsanitary conditions in a home in Plantation after someone complained of an odor coming from inside.When police investigated, they found the pups were underweight, and their hair was so matted that it was cutting off their circulation.
