Authorities are investigating whether a man found dead in a barrel at a Malibu beach is connected to the 2020 murder of rapper Pop Smoke, TMZ reports.The victim’s body, identified as Javonnta Murphy, 32, was discovered on July 31 inside a 55-gallon barrel floating in the water near the Pacific Coast Highway bridge.Murphy’s brother, Jaquan Murphy, 24, was one of five people arrested for Pop Smoke’s murder after the rapper was shot and killed during a home-invasion robbery in the Hollywood Hills.Although Jaquan, along with four other suspects, were arrested for attempted murder at the time, Jaquan was later cleared of the charges.Authorities are now looking into whether Javonnta’s murder may have been in retaliation for the rapper's murder.Pop Smoke performs during the Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas, on Nov. 9, 2019. A suspect remains at large after a car with a man sleeping inside was set on fire early Sunday morning. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the arson occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 400 block of East 102nd Street in the Green Meadows neighborhood of Los Angeles. The suspect walked up to the man's car as he was sleeping and threw a flammable liquid inside, before intentionally igniting the fire, police said.Video footage from the scene shows the car completely engulfed in flames, and once firefighters were able to put out the blaze, all that was left of the vehicle were charred metal fragments. AUSTIN (KXAN) — The suspect in a shooting involving Austin Police officers was taken into custody just before midnight Sunday, according to APD. That suspect was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition. Sunday night, multiple sources told KXAN an Austin police officer was shot in a southeast Austin neighborhood and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. That information was confirmed by Police Chief Joseph Chacon in a briefing early Monday morning. According to Chacon, two officers showed up to the suspect's home to conduct a welfare check. When they didn't hear from the person inside, they made entry into the front door and were confronted by someone with a gun, Chacon said.That suspect then followed the officers as they retreated outside and fired shots. One officer announced on the radio that they were shot, according to Chacon. Both Austin Police officers fired back, Chacon said.
