Stanford softball’s season ends in extra-innings WCWS loss to juggernaut Oklahoma

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 07:32:54 GMT

The Stanford softball team nearly ended the longest winning streak in NCAA softball history. But Oklahoma slugger Tiare Jennings’ two-run double in the top of the ninth was the difference in the Sooners’ 4-2 win, extending the No. 1 seed’s winning streak to 51 games and ending Stanford’s season in the Women’s College World Series semifinals.Stanford’s freshman sensation NiJaree Canady pitched her way out of trouble several times in the late innings and gave the Cardinal hitters a chance to win the game, which Stanford nearly did in the eighth. But after a first-and-second, nobody-out rally in the eighth didn’t result in a walk-off hit, the Sooners broke the tie in the ninth when Jennings hit a Canady curveball to right-center for a two-run double. The game-winning hit sends the Sooners to their fourth-consecutive WCWS Finals and keeps their chance at a three-peat alive. The loss means all three of Stanford’s trips to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series have ended in the ...

The Warriors weren’t a championship team this season for a variety of reasons. But one of the key missing ingredients for Golden State’s success this season has been on display throughout the Miami Heat’s improbable postseason run to the NBA Finals.Joining Draymond Green on his podcast to break down Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Kerr on Monday praised several Heat players, including Duncan Robinson, Caleb Martin and Kevin Love, for their willingness to embrace varying roles.“None of those guys on Miami are sitting there saying, ‘Well, I didn’t play’ or ‘Man, they put in so and so,'” Kerr said. “They’re just all about winning.“And you know this from our groups that we’ve had,” Kerr said, referencing the Warriors teams that won four titles, “when you have that championship mentality, every guy is bought in, every guy is just trying to win, nobody cares about any of that stuff. You don’t go into the locker room s...
