AUSTIN (The Texas Tribune) -- A federal judge on Monday ordered immigration agents to stop taking down or cutting through concertina wire placed on the Texas-Mexico border in Eagle Pass by state troopers and National Guard members in their efforts to deter migrants from crossing the border illegally.Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the Biden administration last Tuesday, claiming that the Border Patrol illegally destroyed state property when its agents cut through concertina wire on the banks of the Rio Grande to “assist” migrants to “illegally cross” the border.District Judge Alia Moses, a George W. Bush appointee, said she would grant Paxton’s request.“The Court shall grant the temporary relief requested, with one important exception for any medical emergency that mostly likely results in serious bodily injury or death to a person, absent any boats or other life-saving apparatus available to avoid such medical emergencies prior to reaching the concertina wire barrier,” Moses ...

Broncos running back Javonte Williams refused to be denied. With 8:04 left in the first quarter of Denver’s home matchup against Kansas City, quarterback Russell Wilson faked to his right, then turned the other direction and threw a screen pass to Williams. The third-year running back then bolted for the end zone, lowered his shoulder and bulldozed through linebacker Drue Tranquill at the goal line for a 4-yard touchdown — his first in two seasons. In the summer when Williams was still recovering from a torn ACL suffered last October, he was determined to become the violent rusher that he was before the injury. The Broncos have seen spurts of it, but over the past two games, especially in the 24-9 win over the Chiefs, Williams has been a freight train that has worn down defenses.“I just feel like my confidence is coming back,” Williams said.Williams had never run the ball more than 23 times in college or the NFL until Sunday, when he had 27 carries for 85 yards. Donald Trump’s Colorado ballot challenge trial begins with each side warning of an attack on democracy

A weeklong trial that could bar Donald Trump from appearing on Colorado’s ballot kicked off Monday with dramatic testimony about the U.S. Capitol insurrection and the judge’s rejection of a request from Trump’s lawyers to recuse herself. Both sides of the ballot-qualification challenge cast the case as putting American democracy at stake — whether by allowing Trump to run again for the country’s highest office or, in the defense’s view, by endorsing a political charade that would rob many voters of their favored candidate. As the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination faces similar ballot challenges in several states, Colorado’s case is the first to present evidence to a judge as the plaintiffs seek to tie Trump to the siege of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.A group of Colorado Republican and unaffiliated voters, backed by the liberal watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, filed the challenge in ...

It was a strange case of too much information, and too little, when Britney Spears got pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer near her home in Thousand Oaks earlier this month. The traffic stop occurred on Oct. 6 and was the second time she was pulled over in the area within a month. In a body camera video obtained by TMZ, the officer approaches Spears in her white Mercedes coupe to accuse her of crossing double yellow lines. I’m so sorry,” she tells the officer. When asked to produce her driver's license -or any form of picture identification- Spears couldn’t.“Do you have any photo ID or anything with your name on it? I know who you are, but, uh…,” the officer says. “Is there a reason you don’t carry it with you?”Spears tried to explain that her security team typically holds onto her identi...
