TSA bracing for busiest-ever holiday travel season

The travel industry seems to have dusted off the COVID-19 cobwebs, as TSA agents announced that they screened a record number of travelers this year. Now, officials are warning travelers that this upcoming holiday season may be the busiest that TSA has ever seen. According to an official TSA release, the “holiday season” begins on Friday with the start of Thanksgiving travel and concludes on Nov. 28. During that 12-day period, 30 million passengers are expected to be screened at security checkpoints nationwide. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents help travelers place their bags through the 3-D scanner at the Miami International Airport on May 21, 2019 in Miami, Florida. TSA has begun using the new 3-D computed tomography (CT) scanner in a checkpoint lane to detect explosives and other prohibited items that may be inside carry-on bags. Batman needs Robin. But right now, the Warriors’ Batman, Stephen Curry, is surrounded by a team of Alfreds. The positives of Alfreds aside — don’t sleep on the value of the butler — this is not a winning formula for the Warriors for the remainder of the season.Golden State is on a three-game losing streak, and with all three losses coming to teams with elite big men, there has been plenty of consternation in the fan base over the Warriors’ size. But the Warriors’ biggest issue so far this season is players — and if we want to be serious, one in particular — not playing up to the size of their role. While the Strength In Number Warriors might be back — this team is deep — the lack of a clear No. 2 has left Curry to singlehandedly carry the burden of winning every game. The two-time MVP still plays at a superhuman level, but he can only do so much. I shudder to think of what happens to the Warriors if he’s not around.(Photo by Nic Antaya/Getty Images) Rel...Singer Pink will give away 2,000 banned books at Florida shows

CAMPBELL — One of the oldest county libraries is getting a complete overhaul more than a decade after city officials first identified the need for a drastic upgrade. The 24,000 square foot-library, which has been out of commission since 2021 when operations moved into the Campbell Community Center, will be torn down to its steel frames and rebuilt on the same footprint into a new, modernized space that is estimated to cost $22.3 million. In September, the Campbell City Council awarded the project to Benicia-based company, Lathrop Construction Associates, Inc., and last week, city and library officials held a ground breaking ceremony. The new facility is expected to open summer 2025.City Manager Brian Loventhal said the need for a new library was identified in 2013 as city officials examined what facilities needed a facelift. Those costs ballooned to upward of $180 million, but the library, he said is the “focus of our community.”“It is a place of education, it’...Paul Pelosi takes stand in David DePape trial

U.S. health officials are warning doctors to be on the lookout for possible cases of lead poisoning in children after at least 22 toddlers in 14 states were sickened by lead linked to tainted pouches of cinnamon apple puree and applesauce.Children ages 1 to 3 were affected, and at least one child showed a blood lead level eight times higher than the level that raises concern, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. There’s no safe level of lead exposure, but the CDC uses a marker of 3.5 micrograms per deciliter to identify children with higher levels than most. The affected children’s blood lead levels ranged from 4 to 29 micrograms per deciliter. The reported symptoms included headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, a change in activity level and anemia. The illnesses are part of an outbreak tied to recalled pouches of fruit puree marketed to kids from the brands WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree and Schnucks and Weis cinnamon applesauce pouches. ATLANTA (AP) — It’s starting to feel like Arthur Smith is coaching for his job with the Atlanta Falcons. After three straight losses, including a final-play setback to the woeful Arizona Cardinals, the Falcons (4-6) head into their bye week with questions all over the field — and on the sideline. Who is the No. 1 quarterback? What happened to the defense that was supposed to be dramatically improved after an offseason spending spree? Is Smith’s job on the line if things don’t turn around?“You embrace it — the good, the bad, the pressure,” Smith said Monday. “The good news is we’re not dead.”Indeed, the Falcons are hardly out of contention in the mediocre NFC South, trailing the first-place Saints by only a game. But they have failed so far to take advantage of a weak schedule. Atlanta’s first 10 opponents have a combined record of 41-52.Smith said he’ll look into almost everything during the bye week, but there is one area that will not change: his ...Latest news
