Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish exited Monday’s game against the Texas Rangers early after taking a line drive off his right foot.Bradish left his 2023 debut after a 104 mph line drive from Rangers catcher Jonah Heim struck Bradish’s foot. The Orioles announced a few innings later that Bradish suffered a contusion and the preliminary X-ray was negative for a fracture. The 26-year-old right-hander attempted to walk it off as manager Brandon Hyde and head athletic trainer Brian Ebel visited the mound. But Bradish was quickly pulled after throwing one warmup pitch and limped off the field.Bradish retired the side in order in the first inning, averaging 96 mph on his fastball and striking out two batters on his slider. When the Bulls trailed by 15 at halftime of Sunday’s comeback win over the Memphis Grizzlies, coach Billy Donovan emphasized one key area of improvement: hand activity.Donovan knows the easiest way to get his team back into any game is to force the opponent into errors. This is where the Bulls have thrived all season — picking off lazy passes, punching away loose balls, outsprinting opponents from one rim to the other. The Bulls forced 16 turnovers in the second half, and the rest followed in stride as they completed a 44-point swing for a 128-107 win over the second-place team in the Western Conference. They scored 31 points off turnovers — an evergreen theme for a Bulls team that has tallied 144 points off turnovers in the last five games. They’ll look to keep up the defensive intensity Tuesday night with a postseason berth at stake. The Bulls will clinch no worse than 10th place in the Eastern Conference — and a spot in the play-in tournament — w...Kansas lawmakers pass bill to help child sex abuse survivors

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas legislators gave final approval Monday to a bill that would make it easier to pursue criminal charges or file lawsuits over childhood sexual abuse years after the abuse occurred. The House approved the measure, 120-0. It goes to Gov. Laura Kelly because the Senate approved it last week, 40-0. Abuse survivors and advocates have been pushing for changes in recent years in the wake of reports of abuse by clergy across the U.S. The bill would eliminate limits on how long prosecutors have to file charges against suspects for any of a dozen violent sexual offenses against children, including indecent liberties, aggravated human trafficking and internet trading in child pornography. For such crimes, other than rape and aggravated sodomy, prosecutors currently can file criminal charges until the victim turns 28 or up to a year after DNA evidence establishes a suspect, whichever is later. The deadline for filing a lawsuit seeking monetary damages would be when abuse...Execution set for man convicted of stabbing woman 37 times

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A man convicted of breaking into a woman’s Florida Panhandle apartment and fatally stabbing her 37 times in 1986 is set to be executed next month under a death warrant signed Monday by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.Darryl B. Barwick’s execution is set for May 3 at 6 p.m. It’s the third execution scheduled in Florida this year after a break dating back to 2019. Donald Dillbeck was executed in February, and Louis Bernard Gaskin is set to be euthanized April 12.The execution would be only the fifth under DeSantis, a far slower pace than recent Florida governors — and ahead of his widely expected presidential campaign.According to court records, Rebecca Wendt, 24, was sunbathing at her Panama City apartment complex on March 31, 1986. When she eventually returned to her apartment, investigators said Barwick followed her inside and attacked her. Wendt’s sister, who also lived at the apartment, returned home later that night and found Wendt...EagleCam shows heavy winds blow nest from tree; eaglet dies

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Viewers of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources EagleCam were heartbroken over the weekend as they watched strong winds from a severe weather system whip a nest holding a newly hatched eaglet out of a tree. The nature livestream captured the moment the nest fell Sunday morning. A mother eagle crouched in the snow-filled nest as it swayed precariously in the wind. A branch snapped, and the nest collapsed as the mother flew backward. The young eagle was later found dead on the ground, the department said in a statement.“I was actually crying,” said Denise Chung, who said she and her kids watched the nest fall in real time. She told The Associated Press it hit her particularly hard because she knew the eagle lost its baby. “I don’t know if it would have hit me so hard if I weren’t a mom.” The nest weighed over 2,000 pounds (907 kilograms) and was over 20 years old, the statement said.
